About MONO Japanese Art

Here, we would like to introduce us “MONO Japanese Art” a bit.

Our articles introduce Japanese contemporary or antique art works. We love Japanese Art and travel around in Japan to interview artists who are incredibly skilled and evolving on the tradition. Therefore there are history of the region where the artists create and technical topics in the articles. Of course, we focus on their personal stories, and our touch and feel of the pieces, too. 

‘MONO’, our name, means ‘thing’ in Japanese. ‘Ki-mono'(dress), ‘Nuri-mono'(lacquer-ware), ‘Yaki-mono'(ceramic), ‘Mono-gatari'(stories), ‘Hori-mono'(sculpture…) etc. Therefore, people create ‘mono’ in Japan. 

Also “MONO” means unique. An art piece is unique and it requires the artist’s philosophical mind and intellectual body. Their works arrive as their synthase of the mind and the body, and they come with stories.

What makes us love an art work? What touches our heart? Is it the beauty? The beauty might be in the eyes of beholder. But we think, there is ‘something’ in a piece. That is why, the piece attracts you.
