Wajima Kirimoto is the company of Wajima lacquer ware based in Wajima, Ishikawa prefecture. The producer is Tai’ichi Kirimoto, who creates beautiful table wares for everyday and a special occasion with his meisters.
They produce the lacquer wares with traditional techniques from Wajima. Also, as they used to be specialized in wood processing, their products are not only lacquered wares. The natural wood works are also their specialties. Their simple and warm form spontaneously speaks out their balmy approach for the wood-lacquer wares.
Wajima lacquer ware is characterized with its strength came from their technique called Wajima-nuri. The base is wood, though Wajima lacquer ware is known for use ultra-thin wood base– you can see the light through. Then cover the edges with cloth, sprinkle ji-no-ko powder and layer lacquer, and polish. The repetition of varnish and polish, all the processes can reach 129. It takes months to a year to finish.
Wajima Kirimoto, as well, produces the table wares with honkataji technique of Wajima-nuri.
